Brothers In Arms

“Brothers in Arms”
Project launch date: May 31st, 2010 (Memorial Day)
All music is now available for download

The "Brothers in Arms Project” is the brain child of Marco Trezza an entrepreneur and musician whose unabiding patriotism has manifested itself in this charitable endeavor to help fund college educations for the children of fallen Special Operations warriors in partnership with the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) - www.specialops.org.

The Marco De Sade Blues Band, along with other guest musicians have recorded our arrangement of Mark Knopfler's "Brothers In Arms," featuring the blues harmonica of Mr. Trezza. Tracks were recorded at Hickory Street Studios with the help and inspiration of our friend, the late Lenny Post, and the musicianship of Greg Hollenbeck - drums, Rick Oberson - piano and hammond organ, The De Sade Choir and myself Gregg Hollister on bass and vocals. We are thankful for the generous participation of Jimmy Leahey on acoustic, slide, and electric guitars, who has also donated his time and talents to this project. We are especially grateful to producer extraordinaire Ron Saint Germain, for his outstanding work recording the harp, vocal and guitar tracks at Saint's Place, and preparing mixes and finals.  Special thanks also go out for the generosity of Mark Knopfler, (author of "Brothers in Arms") and Universal for donating 100% of their royalties

100% of all contributions for downloading this song will go to the SOWF fund. Please donate as generously as you can by purchasing the track below - the minimum cost to download the track is $2.00, but you can give more if you are able to.  You choose the amount. We also ask you to please “pay it forward” by forwarding a link to this website to everyone in your address book, and ask them to donate and then to forward the link to everyone in their email address book. Let's keep this going. Let's make sure that every one of our service men and women know that if they give their life for our country, at the very least, we will make sure there is money for their children to get a college education. We can do this.

“And though they had hurt me so bad,
In the fear and alarm…
You did not desert me, my brothers in arms…”

SOWF:

The Special Operations Warrior Foundation is a four-star charity that provides full scholarship grants and educational and family counseling to the surviving children of special operations personnel who die in operational or training missions and immediate financial assistance to severely wounded special operations personnel and their families.

The Special Operations Warrior Foundation mission is devoted to providing a college education to every child who has lost a parent while serving in Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps Special Operations during an operational or training mission. The forces covered by the Foundation are some 50,000 military special operations and support personnel stationed in units throughout the United States and overseas bases.

The Warrior Foundation is currently committed to providing scholarship grants, not loans, to more than 800 children. These children survive some 700 Special Operations personnel who gave their lives in patriotic service to their country, including those who died fighting our nation's war against terrorism as part of "Operation Enduring Freedom" in Afghanistan and the Philippines as well as "Operation Iraqi Freedom."

“There is a heroism beyond all, for which no Victoria’s Cross is ever given.
Because often there is no official enemy nor any sort of battle, except one volley in the early morning,
at some spot where the noise does not echo into the newspapers.”
Rudyard Kipling

The Marco de Sade Blues Band would like to dedicate this project to both Marco’s dad Corporal Louis Trezza USMC (Iwo Jima, Tinian, Roi-Namur and Saipan) and the memory of Gregg’s father, the late Lt. Colonel Douglas Hollister USMC (Iwo Jima, Saipan, Guam, Korea) and to all the soldiers in every branch of the armed forces then and now and especially to our amazing professional troops who put their lives on the line every day for we citizens in an increasingly dangerous world.

For Our Fathers:
It is one of life’s coincidences, that shortly after Marco and Gregg met in 2009, they realized that both their fathers were in the 4th Marine Division in WWII and went through numerous battles together, including Saipan, Roi-Namur, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. Both men survived the horrors of Iwo Jima – where the Marines suffered more casualties in just the first two hours of the invasion than all of the combined Allied forces throughout all twelve days of D-Day.

          CPL. Louis Trezza

Lou Trezza is a disabled veteran, currently living in New Jersey, who received the Purple Heart and Distinguished Service Medal. After twelve days of combat on Iwo Jima, he was riddled with over 120 pieces of shrapnel after which he spent over 18 months recovering in various Naval hospitals.

          Lt. Col. Douglas Hollister

Lt. Col. Douglas Hollister received numerous decorations including the Purple Heart (multiple awards) in his 25 years of honorable service in the USMC.

In honor of Cpl Louis Trezza, USMC and in loving memory of Lt. Col. Douglas Hollister USMC, and with our prayers and best wishes for Marco’s niece, 2LT. Emma Christensen, US Army (Airborne) who is currently deployed overseas, and to all of our courageous fighting forces defending our nation, we dedicate this song and our efforts on behalf of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

Once again, 100% of all donations from downloading “Brothers in Arms” will go directly to the SOWF.
